Sardar Aseff Ahmad Ali

Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission of Pakistan

      Profile:

Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali was born at Lahore in October, 1940. He is an elected MNA from Kasur District.

He joined the Planning Commission as Deputy Chairman/ Federal Minister on 2nd December, 2008 as the 20th Deputy Chairman.

He is a member of the Central Executive Committee of Pakistan Peoples’ Party and is a graduate from Oxford University U.K. in Philosphy, Politics and Economics.  His educational career includes the following:-

  1. Lawrence College, Ghora Gali, Murree 1951-59 (Senior Cambridge)

  2. Governmnet College, Lahore 1959-62. (B.A. Hons.)

  3. St. John’s Collge, Oxford, U.K. 1963-66 (B.A. Hons.)

  4. Middle Temple, London UK 1963-66 (Philosophy, Polictics & Economics)

 During his professional career, he held the following important portfolios/accomplishments:

  1. Adviser to Governor West Pakistan (1969-71)

  2. Vice-President Punjab Co-operative Bank 1984-87.

  3. MNA   1984-87

  4. MNA   1990-93

  5. MNA   1993-96

  6. Federal Minister of State for Economic Affairs (1990-93)

  7. Federal Minister of Narcotics Control 1993

  8. Foreign Minister (1993-96)

  9. Chairman OIC Foreign Minister’s Conference (1993-95)

  10. Chairman OIC Contact Group on Bosnia-Herzogovina (1993-95)

  11. Citation by U.N. Secretary General Butras Gali on successful mediation on Tajikistan civil war, leading to permanent ceasefire and settlement 1995.

Apart from his full time involvement in politics, he is a good painter, a writer and poet. Periodically, he contributes to various newspapers, journals and magazines.

As far as his painting work is concerned; various exhibitions have been held e.g.

  1.  Group exhibitions in Lahore, Karachi & Islamabad

  2.  Solo exhibition of paintings in Lahore inaugurated by P.M. Jamali in 2003.

His book on English Poetry is under publication with the title of “High Assembly of Sages”.
